It was fairly late in the afternoon; classes had yet to begin for the semester but students were arriving in the next few days. This was his second year teaching and he’d become quite comfortable here at Hogwarts…but that was beside the point! There had been a professor’s meeting a few days ago in which everyone had been informed that there would be a new Astronomy teacher arriving though he hadn’t caught the name. He hadn’t been too interested in the new professor that would be joining the school until well, he’d heard who it would be. Now he was very interested in the new professor. /Very/ interested, especially since he’d gone to school with him when they were both much younger. Freyir hadn’t seen Astris in years and it hadn’t been too shocking when his friend had disappeared after he had graduated while he himself had continued going to school though he had been a bit more than a little disappointed that he hadn’t received anything in the means of communication. And now it was near two decades later. He was excited to see his friend again. Excited and perhaps a bit angry. Yes absolutely angry actually. Some sort of communication would have been nice. He wanted to know how his friend had been doing. What had he been up to? How had he changed? Freyir was buzzing with energy, excited to see how he had changed and yet also hoping that perhaps his friend was still the same as he had been when they were just teenagers. Right now he was on his way to see that friend, hoping that he’d be in the Astronomy Tower which he only had a vague idea of where it was. Astronomy wasn’t a subject he’d taken a real interest in. It was…sparkly balls of gas floating around in empty space. But that wasn’t the main focus in his mind. Tracking down his long lost friend was. He entered the tower and started to look around. If he stayed in here for a while he was bound to run into him eventually, right? Sure. That’s how things typically worked, whatever.

Astris himself, having properly situated the classroom and rooftop observatory to his liking, is now in the process of fixing up his office covering the drab stone walls with a few quick spells and some star charts, written in several languages, including Japanese and Chinese script. There are a few chests and boxes cluttering the floor and deskspace in the office, containing objects such as star globes and blank charts, and he nurses a cup of tea as he works, not even in robes at the moment, simply everyday clothing as he tidies up, bundled in a nice thick sweater to defend against the drafts common to the upper levels of the castle. There’s a small fire crackling behind the grate of the fireplace, providing light along with a string of hung paper lanterns that circle the room, magically lit only a few minutes previously. When he stoops to examine the contents of one box, his glasses fall down the bridge of his long nose and he barely pauses in his search to push them back up, a habit he’s picked up in the years since his early adulthood when he had to start wearing the damn things. He pulls down the sleeves of his sweater as he stands again, another habit he’s picked up to hide the strange runic markings that cover his arms. He moves the previously mentioned box to the nearby desk with a quick wand flick and starts going through it’s contents, back turned to the door and mind too busy to acknowledge the possibility of a visitor so far before the year actually starts.

It takes him a bit of searching but eventually he notices the lights coming from a room down the hall. It was already starting to get fairly dark and even colder. He huffs and pulls his jacket a little tighter around him. He wasn’t in his robes yet, why wear them when the students weren’t even at school yet? Plus these casual clothes were much warmer than those robes despite it still being as cold as it is. Freyir hums as he approaches and peeks inside. When he looks inside his eyes are drawn to the scrolls and charts covering the walls. His eyes drift over them and the floating lights curiously, he couldn’t read any of it not really like he’d want to. He gets bored quickly looking at the scrolls and such all over the walls and his eyes drop to the man hovering over the box by the desk. Freyir quirks an eyebrow and inspects what he can. He was thin and seemed fairly tall, about his height maybe? Whatever. Either way the hair was the same color of Astris’ and it certainly looked like his body type. “Nice ta see you again, Astris.” He muses, leaning against the wall. “It’s been a long time! Almost uh, more than ten years.” He can’t help the little smile pulling at the corners of his mouth. Not gonna lie here, long forgotten feelings stir and it almost freaks him out.

Startled by the voice, he drops the (thankfully not fragile) starglobe he was inspecting back into it’s previous container, turning, eyes narrowed and wand quietly and subtly at the ready for dispelling an unwanted intruder, but after a moment’s thought, he recognizes the accent of the speaker easily. Freyir Ampora, who, at least when Astris last saw him, had not quite grown into himself and followed the older student around like a puppy. A cute puppy, but a puppy nonetheless. The same certainly cannot be said now of the same man, grown and with a curious set of twin scars across his face, but the look of slight hope on his face hasn’t aged a bit. The rest of him seems to have aged nicely, however. Why not mess with the now strangely handsome man a bit?
“I’m sorry, who are you?” he asks with a small, carefully controlled smile, and he lets the question sit for a moment before laughing and shaking his head, leaning casually against the desk behind him, “Only a joke. It’s nice to see you too, Freyir. It has been quite a while, hasn’t it? You certainly have grown up nicely over the years.” He begins shuffling around the room in search of a second teacup, magically and temporarily displacing several boxes’ contents to sift through them until he finds the rest of his cups, glancing back to the other man with a more genuine smile. “Can I offer you some tea? I must assume your presence here in the castle means that either you are visiting or teaching, and I believe the latter is the better, ah-“ Whether or not Freyir accepted, a cup of tea is already being poured as Astris speaks, “Option, seeing as you are not properly dressed for an unaccompanied and frivolous visit to Hogwarts.”

He eagerly takes in his appearance. Astris certainly did age well and the glasses did look quite nice on him. Quirking an eyebrow at him he just sort of appreciates how attractive Astris is. It’s a bit surprising but the added years made him much more so than when they were younger. His eyes drift all over though linger mostly on his face. He looked different, though Freyir couldn't quite figure out what looked so different other than age really. He blinks and frowns a bit when questioned, he didn't remember him? His face droops, almost into a pout but not quite one. When the other laughs he scowls. Yes, if he wasn't certain before then he absolutely was now. This was Astris Captor. What a joy. He sighs and brings a hand up to rub his eyes. “I’m so glad your awful sense a humor is the still the same.” Freyir folds his arms over his chest and rolls his eyes, making sure to do so so that Astris can see as well. He raises his eyebrows at the compliment and smiles a bit. “Thank you. You've aged pretty well yourself.” Freyir’s eyes dart over him again. “Tea is nice, though there are better places to get it than in a dusty old classroom in a tower.” He muses, looking around a bit. Nah the room wasn't dusty but still…he just wanted to get drinks with his old friend, ok?

He regards Freyir quietly, carefully observing each change in posture and expression that crosses the other’s features, eyeing him over the rim of his teacup and taking slow even sips as the other speaks. It isn't until after he offhandedly brings up going elsewhere for drinks that Astris set down his cup and fixes Freyir with a crooked grin.
“Is my sense of humor really all that terrible? Have I really aged well? Is tea really nice? Are there really better places? Is my office really dusty? Or are you just looking for a reason to take me out for a drink or two?”
He allows himself a little chuckle and a little wink at Freyir before turning and continuing going through the box from before, “That was an abysmal effort, from what I would expect of you. I am sure you can do much better; I expected to be amazed by the infamous Ampora charm,” he says over his shoulder, pulling out some more half-filled out charts and quills, “You’re free to try again, however.” He’s mostly teasing at this point, just toying with Freyir to see how he’ll react, and not out of spite, either, but out of genuine curiosity. Has the other man really changed that much? Astris wonders vaguely, idly to himself about if those feelings Freyir had once been rumored to have for him have carried over. It truly has been ages since they've spoken, and almost as long since he’s talked to anyone from his school days, since he left the country so soon after on research terms. At the very least, Freyir might be able to help him get his bearings around the castle, so he’s not about to toss the man out of his office.

“Yes, your humor is that terrible.” He chuckles, it was a joke of course. “You are the one drinking it after all. You tell me, is tea nice? And yes, you’re in a giant tower in an old castle. Everythin’ is dusty here.” Freyir’s smile falls just a tiny bit, he shrugs and looks around the room again, trying to seem disinterested in the topic. “Is it bad that I want to catch up with you? You did disappear for nearly two decades. I’d like ta get to know my old friend again.” He sticks his hands in his pocket and listens to the other talk. He really did have a nice voice.
While Astris talks he definitely does not check out his butt. Absolutely not. Nope. “Am I expected to use charm on a friend? I’m pretty sure that people do take old friends out for drinks to get reintroduced to each other too, or did I get that wrong?” He smiles a bit, fully intent on taking Astris out. Why stay here and catch up anyway? It was like he said, a dusty old castle. There were much better places to talk and well, possibly flirt. He was absolutely going to flirt. His eyes flick back up to look at all the things Astris is pulling out of the boxes. This was boring. Freyir hums to himself, letting Astris unpack in silence for a bit.
“How exactly would you like me ta try again? How should I woo you, Astris?” He chuckles, it was partly a joke. “Should I have made a grander entrance? Swept you off yer feet?” Freyir smiles a bit.

“The tea is nice,” he states, simple and short, flicking his wand to hang to more of the charts to the walls, grinning to himself on how earnest Freyir seems to be trying to be. “No, it is a culturally acceptable thing to do here, to take an old friend out for drinks. Pardon me, I don’t think I’m quite reacquainted with the ways of this particular society. It may take some time and some help until I am fully aware again.” Astris ducks his head and scratches the back of it sheepishly, though he’s fully aware of what to do, and what both he and Freyir want from this exchange, but messing with the other man is just too tempting at the moment. he wants to see if he'll still react the same as he once did.
“Why in all the galaxies are you asking me how to woo myself? If that is your goal, letting me know of your attempts seems a bit counterproductive, eh?”
He turns back around to appraise Freyir, still smiling just the slightest bit, “I believe that those who possess charm are simply constantly putting it on display, quietly or not. Do you not agree?” He pulls at his sleeves again, eyeing the other. He almost wants to ask about the mysterious scars, but he's also sure there are things Freyir wants to ask of him, thus his timely visit to the tallest tower and more specifically, his own office.

Freyir watches the charts float to their places on the walls and hums a bit before looking back to Astris. God, fuck. He was cute. Really cute. Shit. Shitshitshitdamnit. “Oh? Were you out a the country fer a while? Where’d you go?” He decides to walk over to Astris’ desk and picks up one of starglobes and inspects it. What was this even used for? He shifts it around a bit while Astris is talking, occasionally sneaking glances at him. He really had gotten more attractive. “I could always help you adjust. I mean, I’m here anyways. Might as well."
He shrugs. “Well you’re not quite the same Astris I knew way back then. I might need a bit of help gettin’ te know you again. We could always talk about it over a drink, or maybe even dinner. I'm pretty hungry now that I think of it.” He sets the globe down and smiles at him. “Oh? Is that how that works? It certainly seems like you’ve got that down pretty well.” Freyir notices him pull at his sleeves, was he cold? “Are you cold? We could go somewhere better. The students don’t arrive for a few more days so you’ll have plenty of time to set up before then.” His own class was already decorated, though it was much less so than Astris’ seemed to be already.

Astris can’t help the knowing smile, he can feel Freyir’s gaze near instantly, can tell by his unassuming body language that he is still currently interested in him. How cute. He continues organizing the contents of the box on his desk, decidedly not chancing quick side glances at the other as he works.
“Yes. I was in the East, in Kyoto, in Beijing, in Seoul. Doing research, meeting colleagues. Other things.” He tugs at his sleeves again, reflexively, “I was gone for a long while. Ten years, perhaps. In some ways I am still used to the ways of the East.” He pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose again, turning to look at him again and, oh, they are pretty close together right now for two people who haven’t seen each other in years, aren’t they?
“And you are not quite the same Freyir, clearly,” he gestures to his much firmer form, “Perhaps you should go get something to eat, then. Unless you are truly intent on me joining you? I do have some more work to do here, but….” He meets Freyir’s eyes, pretty much asking to be persuaded. Use that supposed charm, Ampora.

He can’t help the way he’s acting. Not really at least. At least he was being honest with everything. For the most part. He hadn’t lied yet ok. Freyir hadn’t really been very successful with his flirting attempts, not that he’d had many attempts, a few girls his first year then Astris then his late wife. After that he hadn’t been much for flirting. He only really knew one way that worked and it was the way he’d flirted with his wife. It was vaguely similar to what he was doing now which was basically persistently asking if the other person wanted to go out. It worked. It had worked. Once. Shut up.
“Sounds like an interestin’ time. What were you doing research on?” He inspects a book next, its filled with more constellations and their stories and such. Not very interesting. “I can see why you’d be so used to the customs over there then. I'll assume you haven’t been back west much since you came here, huh?” Freyir keeps feigning interest in the book he’s flipping through, he didn’t need to look up to take notice of how close they were to each other. No, he was very aware of the distance between them.
“It’s the scars, isn’t it?” He flashes Astris what he considers is a charming smile and turns towards him after closing the book. Freyir eyes Astris, he was making this difficult. “You’re not hungry too? I mean, it’s late already. Are you really all work and no play?” Like he should be saying that. Freyir was typically the grumpiest person ever when it came to ‘play’. The only reason he was being the way he was was because of Astris being back. It was making him stupidly childish again. What a huge nerd he was. “And besides, Hogsmeade Village has changed quite a bit from when we were in school here. Work can wait for the morning.” He quirks an eyebrow at Astris, hoping he’d take the offer. “It’s just dinner and drinks. I’ll even pay for it.”

Astris watches the other man pick up a book, a wonderful book, one of his favorites, a very interesting read, and he smiles slightly, pausing to listen to him and watch him flick through the pages, but also pausing to consider the wording of his answer to the first question, turning back to fuss with the box once again, “I was researching…runic lore and its association to arithmancy. Not very interesting to most people.” Kind of like himself, he muses, “I’ve been mostly keeping to myself, taking care of ‘Tuna. I am glad to have someone else in the house, though; it often got lonely when I was home by myself.” The last part is said as if to himself.
He continues musing for a few moments, over how scary it was to have Mituna with him there at first, how he didn’t think after all he had gone through out of the country that he was fit to effectively raise a child, and a child so wonderful and bright as Tuna especially.
The smile is genuine when Freyir brings his own scars up, “Oh, no, not mostly, honestly. I was more referring to the way you actually have meat on your bones now, so to speak.” He inclines his head, referencing their differences in build, and chuckles, looking away and then back to the other, “I would say I am not all one and none of the other but I have not had much time nor reason for “play”, no, have you?” He copies the eyebrow raise effortlessly, mirroring Freyir’s posture, “Is that an offer, old friend? If it is, I expect to hear how you earned those battle stripes.”

“Oh? Find out anything interesting?” He glances up at Astris. Freyir didn’t know much about either subject, they were never something to truly interest him but he was a bit curious now…not because of Astris of course not. Shhhh. He wanted to know what Astris had been up to. “Hm? ’Tuna?” He asks, now very curious. Freyir smiles a bit and watches Astris stray off into his own thoughts. He liked watching the other like this in a way.
Ah. That was a beautiful smile. He wanted to see it more…Freyir blinks, realizing that he may be staring just a bit. He coughs and looks away. Freyir looks himself over. He did remember being quite a small child for a while. He’d done a lot of growing between his 6th and 7th years. “Mostly? They’re not too interestin’ if I’m honest.” His fingers drift along the two scars, he remembered fondly how he’d gotten them and chuckles. “I’ve been prepared for classes for a while now.” He shrugs. It’d been a few years since he started teaching at Hogwarts so it was just a routine now when he came back to teach after the summer ended. “It is indeed an offer, Astris and I promise you’ll get to hear the fantastic tale that is how I got these scars.” He grins and even motions to them. The tale is not fantastic, not really anyways. He got them in a duel(that he won by the way!) and that was basically it. If anything it's a tale of how he got his late wife to go on a date with him. Though it was more of a sit in the hospital wing and talk kind of thing which wasn't bad at all and had the promise of a future date which was also very nice.

“Interesting would be an understatement,” he mutters, half to himself as he feels over some of the scarring on his wrist through the fabric of his sweater, but he perks up at the mention of Mituna, “Yes, Tuna, Mituna, my nephew. He’s been spending some time with me, with the hopes that I could help him in his studies here at Hogwarts. He certainly helps liven up the house.” He chuckles and shifts his weight, the smile only widening when he notices the stare. “I am sure there are also topics you would like to discuss, of which I will be glad to tell.” He mimics the shrug and glances around the room, supposing that this will do for now, he can fuss with the rest of the boxes when he returns.
“Has Hogsmeade truly changed that much, or are you just eager to take me on what I am starting to believe is a date?” He teases Freyir, grinning and turning to grab a jacket off the back of his chair, leaning across his desk to do so, shrugging it on and eyeing him up, “Ah, I am only teasing. Unless you are wanting that, then I am serious…ly teasing, eheh.” There’s that chuckle again, a hint darker than before.

Freyir tilts his head, wanting to question the subject more but before he can he’s already being told of Mituna so the topic gets a pass for now. He hums a bit nodding at that, maybe a bit happy that ‘Tuna’ was a relative. No one ever said that Freyir wasn’t a jealous person. He was very jealous, very possessive, very stubborn. “That’s good. I’ve a few runts runnin’ around my house as well. Keeps it pretty entertaining most of the time though typically it just ends with me wantin’ te rip my hair out.” He chuckles and crosses his arms. Freyir eyes Astris and can’t help but grin a bit. That much was true.
“Hm, now isn’t that a question.” Freyir’s grin spreads just a tiny bit and he shrugs. “It has changed though, I wasn’t lyin’ about that.” His eyes dart along Astris again before running a hand through his hair. “If you want te call it a date then fine, whatever yer comfortable with.” He waits for Astris to pull his jacket on before turning for the door. He blinks and bites his lip a bit. Hot. Hot friend. Hot uncle…right? Sure. Whatever. Astris was hot, that’s all that mattered. “Teasing? Isn’t that what you’ve been doin’ all night? And if I remember correctly then that’s your specialty isn’t it?” He stops by the door to turn and give the other adult a look. Whether this outing was considered a date or not didn’t matter to him, not particularly. There’d be plenty of time later for dates. Now he just wanted to get closer to Astris again.
